RE: Successful Completion of Cornerstone Installation

Like a great many others, our condo association EV charging station install project was seriously delayed by the pandemic.  However, I write to report that, once the new Eversource pole went  in, construction has proceeded extremely well.  This is due mostly  to J&M Brown Co (electrical) and The Welch  Corp (sitework), each of whom  has performed with excellence throughout the delay, and now, in the field.  Their respective PMs, Dave Adam  and Mike McManus, have  been endlessly responsive and cooperative, inclusive  of close collaboration on location and design details; protecting our abutter’s landscaping; and storage of our pre- purchased EV equipment for more than  half a year.  Field operations were safe and well-organized, and the finished installation appears well-built  and high-quality. Residential condo projects can be small and fussy nuisances, but  we were treated invariably  as an important project and a valued customer. I definitely recommend both these companies and their personnel for any similar work.

Re: Raytheon Tewksbury 

Things could not be going any smoother at the Raytheon project in Tewksbury, even in light of the current pandemic and crisis everyone is facing now. Our project is still slightly ahead of schedule. Somehow all of your materials arrived early, [with] everything conforming to both to the spec and what Raytheon expected. We greatly appreciate your entire project team showing up to work every day, with as good of an attitude as you can ask for in these times.  Raytheon has praised J+M Brown many times both on this project, and your previous work at their Innovation way project.

To say J+M Brown is Raytheon’s current preferred Electrical contractor would be an understatement.  I’ve been told by the Raytheon PM a few times when I asked a question to “just check with JM Brown, they know how Raytheon wants it done.”  Wanted to make sure you were aware of how happy Raytheon and Columbia are with your performance on this project.

I am writing to you to acknowledge how well your [Spectrum IT] team handled the project in one of our buildings – 222 Berkley/500 Boylston. As you know it was not an easy undertaking. We had to upgrade the whole security system and the network. So the effort was joint with Oxford, Siemens and Spectrum/Otis. Fiber back bone was installed and all controllers replaced on the network with new switches and new server and software for security. Your team spent countless hours to make sure the system works right and was delivered on time to meet Oxford’s demanding schedule. What impressed me most is how your team handled difficult to impossible situations with Amag and Otis implementation. Terry Kildiff went out of his way to make sure the right code was written by Amag to meet our Otis destination dispatch requirements and meet the deadline for the tenant.

We are very grateful for all the effort put into it – that made our team and Spectrum look very professional in front of tenants, Draftkings and Wayfair. I would ask you to have Terry in charge our whole portfolio – Cambridge included. With his team, I’m sure we will be able to finish One Memorial (Microsoft tenant) elevator integration on time and with equally impressive results.

Re: Spectrum IT work at Harvard University

At a campus-wide Project Management meeting today regarding our projects in Allston, a question was asked of the PM’s: ‘who are your ‘go to’ contractors?’  Spectrum was my answer. This turned into a broader discussion with many project managers across the campus stating what a pleasure it is working with the Spectrum team. The meeting included representatives from Harvard Capital Projects, Harvard Medical School, Harvard School of Public Health, FAS Capital Projects, Radcliffe, HUIT, HUEHS, HUE&U and others.

Later this afternoon, in another meeting regarding ongoing work at 114 Western Avenue, a similar discussion about working with Spectrum as a vendor on campus took place.  The end result was more kudos to Spectrum.

This past weekend at 451 D street from 10pm-6am we were performing a shutdown to prepare for our new ATS switchgear we will be installing. I want to let you know that Mike Sawyer and Kieran Joyce are both top notch foreman. Mike Sawyer had this shutdown figured out to a tee with no issues. He had a crew of [J&M Brown electricians] and every crew member had a mission. I was very impressed with how Mike and Kieran ran the crew. It was a long night and not once did they stop.

The crew on Phase 1 was fantastic and I know it’s tough to keep the same crew, but for this shutdown we had that [same] crew and they killed it. Hard work and dedication is what this crew strives for – I just want to say GREAT JOB!!!! J&M Brown has done a great job with the security, AV, Electrical, Fire Alarm, Tele/Data… keep up the good work . I don’t want to leave out Joe Tutrone who also is a huge part of this team. Thanks for all you do.

I received a call at 7:26am Sunday from the Building engineer at International Place. There was a power outage on the 24th floor as an alarm signaled to the tenant that the IT room went down. J&M Brown foreman, Matt Giblin, came in immediately on Sunday to assist John Benoit (Manager BTE) in troubleshooting and helped determine the cause to be a damaged bus duct on the 5th floor, Tower 2 (not caused by Columbia Construction Company or J&M Brown). He assisted until  [the issue was resolved].  John Benoit was extremely appreciative of Matt and J&M  Brown’s assistance. Thanks Matt for a job well done!

Subject: Spectrum IT’s Fit-out Services 

Thank you very much for helping us through a challenging situation this weekend.  We were considering rescheduling our office move because we didn’t have the WAN links and voice PRIs available to support the business in the new space.  Your team arranged to have mitigating materials delivered within 24hrs and 4 technicians arrived to install fiber cabling between L21 and L29 so that we could proceed with the move.  They also stepped in to help solve a problem we had with the PRI cabling that Verizon was trying to bring online.

I want to specifically acknowledge Joe Hanlon who helped us until 2am Friday to ensure we had all our IT equipment moved, patched and tested in the new IT room.  He had worked a double shift and was up almost 24 hours but he wouldn’t quit until we had what we needed which at that point was both WAN and PRI links and all systems tested “OK”.  And, he came back the next morning early to perform all the desk patching and a host of other items that needed attention in the comms room.  The help was invaluable! Spectrum’s contribution in making this weekend’s move possible, is very much appreciated.

It really was a pleasure working with George Lambrenos on site. He was extremely flexible and accommodating considering that the project was somewhat of a design-build project. In addition to coordinating well with myself and the other trades, he also did so with VCA personnel every day. They felt very comfortable with him and appreciated all of his and his team’s extra efforts.

David, I just wanted to thank you personally for assembling yet another extraordinary crew to install the newest Fire Alarm system at Emerson in its largest dormitory on campus [at 80 Boylston Street]. Projects of this complexity need great leadership and planning, Paul Arthur, Tom Rose and Paul Healey all stepped up and orchestrated a precise plan of attack that was in turn executed perfectly by Geoff and his team in the field. Holding true to form, the project management team assembled a well-seasoned crew to demo the existing system as part of the end game, tearing through all but the lower levels in two days to be ready for the returning students.
