Scope: Comprehensive electrical construction, including primary and emergency power systems, electrical fit-out of entire facility – research labs, classrooms and administrative offices, fire alarm system, and lighting system.
- Electrical service installed and integrated to feed power to existing Harvard School of Dental Medicine
- 650kW generator set, transfer switches, motor control panels hoisted to penthouse and mechanical floor prior to roof construction
Highlights:
Tight site and small footprint of 80,000 s/f building required all electrical equipment to be hoisted into the building by crane. Power substation and switchgear equipment was lowered into the building in small sections and components were reconstructed in electric room. Mobilization and scheduling of equipment was critical to project success. Lighting systems required close management of delivery and installation. Lighting, comprised of hundreds of fixtures was palletized and delivered to each floor; lighting installations occurred only after other construction on the floor was complete. Coordination between trades was critical due to very limited space above ceilings for electrical installations.
Work was provided with minimal disruption to existing Harvard School of Dental Medicine and its surrounding facilities on the Longwood campus.
