February 27, 2014 – Boston, MA – The white hot life science market in Boston will feature a dynamic new, nine-story research facility in the heart of the Longwood Medical area by the fall of 2014, as the 11-story, 414,000 square-foot Longwood Center tower is nearing peak construction at the intersection of Longwood and Brookline Avenues. J&M Brown Company, based in Jamaica Plain, Mass., is the project’s primary electrical contractor, providing the state-of-the-art facility’s shell and core electrical construction, including installation of power distribution, lighting and lighting control, and fire alarm systems.
Concurrently, the NECA contractor is handling electrical fit-out for the Longwood Center’s anchor tenant, Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. Dana-Farber will occupy 154,000 square feet of cutting-edge laboratory space on four levels of the mixed-use life science center. The building, designed by Elkus Manfredi Architects of Boston, will feature nine floors of lab, research, and medical office space, with retail at street level. Two mechanical floors will accommodate laboratory requirements and the facility will have three floors of underground parking.
J&M Brown is serving on a project team headed by general contractor John Moriarty & Associates, of Winchester, MA.
The Longwood Center is a a joint venture consisting of Alexandria Real Estate Equities, Inc., National Development of Newton, Mass., Charles River Realty Investors, of Newton Lower Falls, Mass., and Clarion Partners of New York.
